Between 1914 and 1918 Europe and the world was at conflict, The Great War engulfed Europe and furtther afield. Today called the First World War, one of the most significant events in modern history spanned from 1914 to 1918 and changed the political landscape in the world, changes that we can still see some of the effects of today. World War One was an example of a TOTAL WAR, a war that effected every element of society in the countries that were involved. This essay will give an overview of how he Great War impacted on the lives of civilians both in the combat zone and on the Home Front in both Britain and Germany and how the difficlties imposed on civilians differed greatly in how they were marnaged and their specific impact on the people in both counries, indeed we will also examine how these experiences played a part in ending the war
